Koji Studios - Bellevue, KY
First Friday

Fri, Jul 5th
comment

First Friday is a monthly event taking place in Bellevue, KY (right next to Newport). Every month a strip of stores hold special events & sales with tie-ins & rewards. There are several galleries on that strip of road. This gallery is at the corner of Fairfield & Taylor.

We will hold a proper opening for my show soon enough. I'll be sure to announce it well in advance & I will have a new series to premier there too!

The Full Art Spectrum has partnered with the Coffee Emporium downtown to have a gathering of artists, musicians, poets, and possibly more for the Final Friday event coinciding with the Jazz Festival. I am currently collaborating with other artists in The Full Art Spectrum to create new artwork using several novel approaches.

There will be a live band, poetry performances, & this artwork below.

Here are the ones that will be hung this Friday

I was invited to be one of two artists at this upcoming event. I premiered the new series: City Rain. It was great to have seen many of my friends and family at the event. Especially friends I haven't seen in some time!

I had a good time and I feel this was one of my better events. I hope I made some new fans as well. I sold a piece (Journey of Love) and now there's only 2 pieces left from the Emotions Series done in 2000 (Hope and Journey of Sex).

"City Rain" was a hit indeed. I'm relieved that all my hard work and creativity paid off to deliver such a complex and immersive experience. The charcoal horse was quite striking as well.

The Obama Inaguration Portrait is an ambitious project. It requires many details & personalities along with lots of details and dedication. Many people have asked for updates as it goes along. I'm excited to share it's creation with you.

Here are some in-studio pictures of the 1st painting being developed. The series is currently at the Masterpiece Gallery (and looks much better in person than in photos).

Just for fun I thought I'd put together these two sculptures of the Mario Brothers wearing shirts for the two stores my friend, Brian, owns and operates.

Tri-County Mall
I have many of my pieces on display and for sale at the Masterpiece Gallery in the Tri- County mall. The store is between Auntie Anne's pretzel shop and Macy's on the 1st floor (it's a lot closer to Macy's). It's an actual art store in a mall that sells original, local, art! Give them your support.

The gallery was open for the montly Final Friday event held downtown centering around the Pendleton gallery (on Pendleton & 13th). This was the first time I was involved in that periodic event.

I was invited by Angela Marrow (one of the owners/operators), along with two other artists, Tyson and Phillip. I had met Tyson before and seen his work when we were involved with the group Liberated Souls.

I was invited only three weeks before the show and had a lot of stuff to do during that same time (getting ready to go back to college and change careers). I did, however, find time to make a piece just for the event: Jesus.

There was a lot more traffic than I expected and a lot of conversation about many of my pieces. Specifically, there was a lot of talk about the new piece as well as Hope.

I consider the event a success. I hadn't been active in too many shows lately so this reminded me about my first love and encouraged me, once my current responsibilities are properly managed, to get out and participate more in the local art scene.

School for the Creative and Performing Arts Alumni Day comment
1310 Sycamore St., Cincinnati, OH
My high school alma mater, SCPA (The School for the Creative and Performing Arts) has an annual "Alumni Day" when all former students are invited to visit the school. A few years prior, probably 5 or so, I was able to put up some of my artwork in the school library.

This time there was a display case in front of the Alumni Library for my pieces and for another person's work. I displayed The Tower prototype, some of my Cincinnati Bengals editorial cartoons as well as other pieces which I didn't show last time.

Metro Bagels - Sep, 2006 comment
Duke Blvd, Mason, OH

My friend and owner of the Metro Bagels store, Brian, invited me to display some of my art at his restaurant. After the invitation I decided to work on some new pieces which I had been thinking of doing for some time. I created the "Street Sports" series.

Downtown Cincinnati

I was invited to display my artwork for the popular downtown club after it's recent opening. I created the Cataclysmic Charicature series just for this event. With my father's help I also designed and built most of the frames for the event. This was also the public display debut of the Jesus on Cavalry.

I was given a solo show at the Barnes & Noble in Mason for the entire month. I had worked on the piece "Jesus on Cavalry" as a gift for my father & presented it to him there. It was not put on display.
